Editorial Review:

Product Description:
This documentary miniseries which first aired on the History Channel combines astronomy and history as it presents man's continual quest to explore the outermost reaches of the universe. Satisfyingly realistic computer reconstructions allow viewers to go inside our sun skirt the event horizon of a black hole and travel to the deepest reaches of space all while giving considered attention to the age-old question: are we alone in the universe or is there life on other planets?Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DOCUMENTARIES/A&E UPC: 733961776058 Manufacturer No: AAAE77605

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - yes, it has subtitles!
I LIKE SO MUCH THIS SERIES AND BECAUSE I SAW ONLY 2 OR 3 ON TV, I WANT TO PURSHASE THE BOX, BUT COMMENTS SAID THAT IS NO SUBTITLES OR CC, I WAS AFRAID OF THAT BUT I TAKE THE CHANCE, AND THE REAL TRUTH IS: YES IT HAS CC, I DON'T KNOW WHY THE OTHER PEOPLE DON'T SAW, MAYBE THE TV. ALL OF THAT IS BEACAUSE I AM FROM MEXICO AND I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL. BUT THE WORDS SAID BY THE PEOPLE IN THE SERIES IS EASY, PLAIN ENGLISH.
PARA LOS QUE TIENEN DUDAS ACERCA DE SI ESTA SUBTITULADA, SI ESTA! EN ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Wonderful, but would be better with subtitles !
Contrary to the description on the Amazon site, these 4 DVDs are not subtitled, even the number 1 disk.

That's my only regret as a French speaking customer.

But this personal inconvenience is balanced by the fact that the pictures are really wonderful.

I think it's one of the best documentary I have seen for a subject which is of deep interest for me.

Commentaries put the subject to the level that most people could understand these sometimes complex ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Should have been called "The Universe for Dummies"
There are some interesting presentations in this series, and some stunning visuals. That's the only upside. The downside is, it was written assuming the audience are idiots - it's so 'dumbed down' that it's of very little information value - and there are plenty of factual inaccuracies that had me shouting at the screen.

If you already have even a basic understanding of the universe, watch this ONLY for the visuals, because you certainly won't learn anything from this series.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The best DVD series about SPACE so far
The information is up-to-date and interesting. The best thing about this collection is the three-dimensional computer graphics. They are amazingly beautiful and realistic. They makes me understanding the subject easier than reading the books. One computer graphic is indeed worth a thousand words and two-dimensional pictures! I gave it only 4 stars because of the 2 reasons listed below.

1. No English subtitles/caption except on disk 1. This is bad because there are many scientific terms I don't ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great, except it's letterboxed.
Fantastic series, but if you have an HDTV, like many of us do now, your in for a disappointment. This set is presented in a letterboxed format which means on an HDTV, there are going to be thick black bars framing the image, not just that the top and bottom of the screen, but all the way around.I don't know what the distributer is thinking, this should have been presented in a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio.I hope they correct this on season two.
