I bought this one because it's wireless, it will operate wired directly if you already have your home networked otherwise it works pretty well.
Immediately I used its software to watch shows I recorded with Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 PCI TV Tuner with Remote Control (1045) I used it's software immediately which is nice, but it lacked watching live tv, it also works with GBPVR and will give you the ability to watch live tv, and all pvr functionality. I bought this product because I believed it truly was the right approach as a media extender for what I use, which is "Beyond TV". I have a wireless network set up which has excellent signal strength and was recognized by the MediaMVP but, for some reason, was not able to acquire an IP address from my router. It will share files across multiple networked computers but you must tell the MVPMedia.exe service the admin username/password to give it full access to the shared computer(s).Go to Control panel->Administrative Tools->Services. Right-click on MVPMedia.exe and select Properties.Then click on the Log On tab and tell it to use "\.YOURUSERNAME" without the quotes and then type in your password and then confirm your password.MVPMedia.exe will then try that username/password for any computer you ... The setup was relatively easy if you follow the instructions and not try to figure stuff out by yourself (which will result in a few dead ends and double work).
After I had it setup and running and installed the "indexing" service on my computer did I learned that the software is unable to include files from a network share and only locally stored files.... bummer, good that I bought a network storage for my video library a couple months earlier to be able to access it from multiple ... Rating: - Doesn't work with new routers
I will soon be using this device as a hard wired device. It does not support SEVERAL new routers, including all type N routers that I have researched, and the D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N Gigabit Router does not work for sure. Plus, if it did work, the device only supports WEP, which is just about as good as taping your front door closed. The only plus that this device has is that it works with GB-PVR, but I can't use that until I have an ethernet cable running to my living room. Stick with the cheaper ... Read More
