Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: 'Buckle up for this amusing, exciting and hilarious adventure' (Janet Stokes, Film Advisory Board, Inc.) with everyone's favorite inquisitive little monkey! When The Man In The Yellow Hat befriends Curious George in the jungle, they set off on a non-stop, fun-filled journey through the wonders of the big city toward the warmth of true friendship. Featuring the voice talents of Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore and an all-star cast, Curious George is ''a family classic'' (Dean Richards, WGN-TV) that will have the kid inside everyone giggling with delight again and again!
Amazon.com: A wild collection of hip actors--from Will Ferrell to Drew Barrymore to David Cross--provide voices for Curious George, based on the classic, gentle children's books. Ted (voiced by Ferrell, Elf) works at a natural history museum that's fallen on hard times. The museum director's son (Cross, Arrested Development) wants to turn it into a parking lot, but Ted offers to bring back a mysterious idol from Africa that's guaranteed to pull in crowds. Unfortunately, the idol turns out to be three inches tall. But Ted (who, before he heads on safari, gets outfitted in head-to-toe yellow, transforming him into the beloved Man in the Yellow Hat from the books) accidentally brings back a lonely yet irrepressible monkey, soon dubbed George. In no time at all George gets into all kinds of mischief--painting an apartment, soaring aloft with a bunch of helium-filled balloons, climbing on a dinosaur skeleton, and generally getting Ted into hot water. Older fans of the books will probably wince at the formulaic save-the-museum storyline, as well as at the obligatory love interest (Barrymore, Charlie's Angels) whose role is utterly passive. Jack Johnson's songs are so bland you can't remember the melodies even as you're listening to them, and the animation (an odd but not ineffective blend of two-dimensional drawing and CGI) has grossly cutified the book's illustrations, eroding their origina charm (the contrast is made sadly clear by a montage of the original drawings over the closing credits). But the basic relationship between man and monkey remains sweet, and younger kids will delight in George's innocent troublemaking. --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - So great! My 2 year old son LOVES this movie(my husband and I do too). The colors and animation are fabulous and we just can't get enough of that cute little monkey! I highly recommend this to parents of toddlers on up.
Rating: - Yes, 20 minues of heaven I got this movie because we would show the opening intro to our six month old on youtube and he loved it.This is a sweet simple story but is definitely not geared for adults or people who don't like Jack Johnson since he wrote the soundtrack. That being said, I'm a kid and heart and like Jack Johnson and my now seven month old will actually sit and watch this movie for a good 20 minutes on his own while I get housework done, I'm absolutely in love with the cute little movie.I highly recommend ... Rating: - DVD My grand daughter loves George.Good price and good service. Will shop again and would recommend to anyone.
Rating: - Refreshingly innocent Love how innocent this movie is. There isn't anything that I worry about being inappropriate like with some other "kid" movies. And I think the animation is really nice as well, with rich, bright colors. The soundtrack is nice and mellow (great until you've heard it a few hundred times in a row).
Rating: - Not like the TV show. Tells the origional story nicely but I thought it would be a little more like the TV show. My son expexted engagment from the start but it begins a little on the slow side and lacks attention grabbers later in the film. No bad but if a show ain't broke...
