Amazon.com Product Description:
Designed for a small to medium-sized home theater, the Pioneer VSX-516-K delivers robust surround sound to a full-blown 7.1 speaker array, giving your movie soundtracks the rich audio they deserve. The receiver is built around Pioneer's exclusive Hybrid Amplifier design, which drives 100 watts of power into each of its seven channels. Pioneer receivers also include such defining attributes as a digital signal processing (DSP) technique called Sound Retriever, which brings CD-quality audio to compressed formats; nine advanced surround modes; and a high-quality 192 kHz, 24-bit digital-to-analog converter that allows CDs and other audio sources to reach their full potential.

Movie buffs will dig the VSX-516-K's multiple surround decoders, which include DTS-ES Discrete, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, Dolby Digital EX, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx. In addition, you don't need to buy a full 7.1 speaker setup to use the VSX-516-K out of the box. Not only does it support 5.1 and 6.1 systems, but you can also use the two surround-back amplifiers to drive the main front left and right speakers, giving you an extra 200 watts up front. It's the perfect setup for music and movie fans who want a combination of power and versatility.

The VSX-516-K also includes a number of audio extras, including a dialogue enhancement function, a midnight listening mode that suppresses the volume during particularly loud passages (ideal for households with kids), an AM/FM tuner, and a virtual surround back mode that makes it sound as though you own rear surround speakers even when you don't.

With a bevy of digital and analog inputs, the VSX-516-K can accommodate a ton of digital sources, such as DVD players, CD players, video game consoles, digital satellite receivers, and more. The rear panel options include three digital inputs (two coaxial and one optical), two component video inputs and one outputs, three composite inputs and one output, a 5.1-channel input, and a subwoofer preamp output.

The receiver measures 16.56 by 6.25 by 13.88 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Value!
First let me say that before I bought this receiver I was using a Pioneer VSX-454, which worked great for 12 + years. 5.1 surround had been out for awhile and I wanted to upgrade to a receiver that could reproduce it. There are so many choices that it was hard to decide, but finally decided on the VSX-516-K, based upon past experience and all the great reviews. Though this may be called an 'entry-level' receiver, do not let that discourage you. If top notch sound is what you're looking for, I venture ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great product
This is a great product for the price. For a home theater aplication this amp does more than expected. And for the price you just can ask anymore. I got this amp shipped very quickly and received it without any problems all the way in Aruba! The amp has a bunch of preset EQ's so you'll find one that'll fit you. I run these through old but faithfull Pinnacle 200 monitors and some RCA surrounds and the whole set just begs to be played out loud. It's been a while since I felt rumble in the room from such ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Easy and it works
Easy to set up, anyway you want.First I did it with 3 speakers, now it is hooked up to 5.It was simple to reprogram the surround sound from 3 to 5 speakers.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Handles the Sound End
This entry level A/V receiver does a fine job of powering my home theater 7.1 speaker setup. It has ample power to make the Infinity Primus Theater Pack(5.0) plus Primus 360 fronts and Sony SA-W700 subwoofer sing. No apparent distortion at any sound level I can bear! Only minus on speaker set-up is that all "small" speakers must share same crossover point to subwoofer. Has one digital input with a multitude of sound effects. Handles digital input decoding automatically and well. Also has 5.1 analog inputs ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best $100 ever spent.
This is a great little receiver. At the price I paid it's untouchable.I wasn't even planning on buying a receiver but for the price I paid plus a $20 gift card, I couldn't resist.Besides, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the older Sony I was using that was relying on my DVD player's DD and DTS decoding.I was reluctant because I had not done any research but I figured dirt cheap entry level cira 2006 had to be better than dirt cheap circa 2000.

After having tried it out, I'd have to agree with ... Read More
