Editorial Review:

Description:
Four Academy Awards(R) including Best Picture! The funny, tender story of a feisty Southern lady and her chauffeur, fueled by the starpower of Jessica Tandy, Morgan Freeman and Dan Aykroyd.

Amazon.com essential video:
Winner of the Academy Award for best picture of 1989, this gracefully moving drama, adapted from the hit play by Alfred Uhry, chronicles the 25-year friendship between a stubborn, aging Southern widow (Jessica Tandy) and her loyal chauffeur (Morgan Freeman). At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of a chauffeur, but Hoke is quiet, wise, and tolerant, and as the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration. Tandy deservedly won the Oscar for her sassy and sensitive performance, and Freeman earned an Oscar nomination for bringing quiet depth and integrity to his memorable role. Ironically, director Bruce Beresford (Tender Mercies) was not nominated, but the film won Oscars for makeup and for Uhry's screenplay, in addition to a supporting actor nomination for Dan Aykroyd as Daisy's supportive son. Delicate, funny, and bittersweet, Driving Miss Daisy was a surprise hit when released, and marked the crowning achievement of Tandy's great career. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Driving Miss Daisy
I love this movie.Morgan and Jessica are fantastic in it.Its such a good story about two people who are so different but become such good friends.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - dvd review
Morgan Freeman, Dan Akroyd, and Jessica Tandy are absolutely wonderful in this movie that details an unspoken friendship between a fussy woman and her driver. From a historical view, there is an actual building/factory in Nashville, Tennessee named Werthan.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - 2 stars out of 4
The Bottom Line:

Painfully earnest and broad, Driving Miss Daisy charmed Oscar voters enough to make them forget that the movie generates almost no interesting character interaction or tension, but instead feels like a sappy made-for-TV movie with large chunks removed.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - classic
one of morgan freemans best and old white lady heres martin luther king talk and has a stroke, dumb white people

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Touching Story Teaches Valuable Lesson
This unforgettable film is timeless and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Its lessons are invaluable.

Tracing the autumn and winter years of Daisy Werthen through her relationship with her chauffeur, we learn how a woman of strong opinions can change her view of the world through the help of an uneducated yet wise man.

Morgan Freeman plays the part of the chauffeur, known as "Hoke," and Jessica Tandy is featured as the strong-willed curmudgeon, Miss Daisy. Over the years, ... Read More
