America magazine is a Jesuit magazine with a liberal Catholic bent.The editors will often give heterodox dissenters room to disseminate their views.If that's your cup of tea, fine, but you have no reason to be a member of the Catholic Church if you can't follow the pope and bishops.Instead, look to the Episcopal church.I do not recommend this publication.
