I really wanted this product to work. I love the simplicity of the design and I was planning on giving two of these as gifts. Sadly, as other reviewers have stated, the locking mechanism does not work properly. The two halves practically fall apart. The bumps/grooves are not pronounced enough to keep them attached.
WMF really should try to correct this issue, because if the unit stayed shut, I'd easily give it 5 stars.

The casing on this ball is very sturdy and the stainless mesh is held solid in a stainless circular frame.The hook is not my favorite design, but outside of that, the infuser is wonderful.I have four of these that I use to make 2 pitchers of Tea.I use 2 infusers for each pitcher.I do not pack the tea tight inside of the ball, so that may be the reason that some people complain about the locking mechanism.I have never had the tea ball come open while I was making tea.I suppose if you pack ... This teaball is made to last forever!The recipent is very happy with it's performance.Too bad it didn't arrive in time for Christmas (it was supposed to be a stocking stuffer).

First, make sure you read the specifications before you buy this product. It clearly says "large". The actual item is 2-1/2" in diameter, and 1-1/8" tall when closed. It has a 6" chain and hook. Measure your mug or whatever vessel you intend to use to make sure it will fit.
With that said, this teaball does an adquate job of steeping tea leaves in a large mug or pot. I can easily load enough tea leaves for a quart or more and just steep this one tea ball instead of several bags.

Rating: - What a waste
This looked like such a great little Christmas gift to give to my husband who is gaining interest in loose teas.Fortunately for me, I was curious to see how it looked because "teaball" tells me "round object," and the picture looked like it's of half the teaball...Anyway, I tried to open the teaball, and it wouldn't even move!!!! I'm glad I didn't give a defective gift.You may want to consider a different product.
