Description: Eastwood plays a hard-drinking trucker with a pet orangutan chasing the love of his life to Colorado.
DVD Features: Production Notes Theatrical Trailer
Amazon.com: Clint Eastwood's 1978 comedy introduces Filo Beddoe, a truck driver and mechanic whose daily life is an absurd grind. He's constantly coming up short on money, love, and anything else to help him get through the day, while also saddled with a loony mother (deliciously played by Ruth Gordon), a best friend (Geoffrey Lewis) who's not too swift on the uptake, and an orangutan named Clyde who fights almost as well as Clint. While moonlighting as a bare-knuckle fighter, Clint finally meets the girl of his dreams (Sondra Locke), a snooty country singer who rebuffs him even as he pursues her, trailed by bikers and brawlers. It's Eastwood's magnetism and charm that make this more than a mere string of comic sketches, and things move along quickly enough to be entertaining, if a little thin. Clyde is a natural scene-stealer, but it's Ruth Gordon's crazy, cranky old coot who steals the movie. --Robert Lane
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - Girlfriends Movie Clint made and attempt to make his Honey Sondra into a star. Too bad Clyde upstaged her and made this movie a hit! Lesson learned...never act with animals or small children...The movie is funny. The story is cute. The supporting actors are great in their background roles.I just don't feel as attached as when it came out.Perhaps seeing a "Where is she now" actress ham it up spoils it for me.Clint did a great job and Clyde made him work those acting chops!
Rating: - Cheap for a Reason. I know I used to love this movie as a child when it was on cable back around 1980 and I have not seen it since those days so I figured that I would get it on the best format available today.
I look at reviews of BD's before I buy and reviews were favorable, but maybe they forgot to mention a few things. The intro to the film is of a bootleg/grainy/high compression quality to the point that I feared that this would be the whole film!I started thinking to myself, "this is why it is ... Rating: - dumb fun This is a dumb movie thats fun for what it is. And it aged much better than most other movies of that era. Eastwood plays a blue-collar weekend fighter who owns an "ape" (I know its not an ape) and chases after Sandra Locke. The movie is a showcase for a whole bunch of character actors as well.
The blu-ray transfer looks much better than the DVD which is a comment on how bad the DVD was in terms of video quality. The blu-ray transfer of the film was done on a budget. Its ok. But nothing ... Read More
Rating: - Every Which Way But Loose [Blu-ray] A good Clint Eastwood comedy which could've been great except for Clint's infatuation with Sandra Locke at the time. Ruth Gordon and Clyde the orangutan make this DVD ever the more enjoyable.
Rating: - Every wich way but LoseBluy-ray A very funny movie, the ape and the old lady make this a must watch, the blue-ray looks much better than the dvd but not as good as if they did better restore of the film elements.
