H.G. Pulled this baby out of my DVD collection the other day. What a cool time experiencing it all over again. Great childhood memory and genuine entertainment. Got to thinking that Lionel Jeffries' over-the-top and somewhat hammy performance just may have been a partial impetus for Pee Wee's Great Adventure character. Anyway, nice Ray Harryhausen effects and a marvelous Bernard Herrmann influenced music score by Laurie Johnson. Holds up quite well and should go right alongside two other great science ... Read More

I remember watching this movie fondly while growing up in the 1960s. So, when I saw this finally advertised at a phenomenal price, I had to own it. Well, I'm glad I did. I had forgotten how funny and campy this movie is. Sure you can see the wires holding them up. Yes, those bug creatures look like small children in oversized bug pajamas. The story seems like a great idea and it's probably great to read from H.G. Wells, but the movie is pretty bad, mostly because the characters are pretty annoying. Cavor is the most interesting, but his near-constant panic makes you want to slap him silly. Bedford and Kate are simply unlikeable.The three of them together are like watching the characters from Three's Company go to space, and I never cared for that cast's idiotic hijinks.

The moon landing in this movie if you notice, is almost exactlly like a recent NASA Landing on Mars, which used a "Bouncing Ball" Type of landing very similar To First Men In The Moon.
