Editorial Review:
Description: George P. Cosmatos presents the Director's Cut of his incredibly popular TOMBSTONE, the action-packed, star-studded western that brings the legendary feud between the Earps and the Clantons to life. Former U.S. Marshall Wyatt Earp's (Kurt Russell) plan for peace, quiet, and prosperity misfires when he, his brothers, and the outrageous rogue Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) encounter that ruthless band of outlaws, the Clantons. Gripping performances and explosive action fill the screen in this legendary western about Tombstone and the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Amazon.com: This Western has become a modest cult favorite since its release in 1993, when the film was met with mixed reviews but the performances of Kurt Russell (as Wyatt Earp) and especially Val Kilmer, for his memorably eccentric performance as the dying gunslinger Doc Holliday, garnered high praise. The movie opens with Wyatt Earp trying to put his violent past behind him, living happily in Tombstone with his brothers and the woman (Dana Delany) who puts his soul at ease. But a murderous gang called the Cowboys has burst on the scene, and Earp can't keep his gun belt off any longer. The plot sounds routine, and in many ways it is, but Western buffs won't mind a bit thanks to a fine cast and some well-handled action on the part of Rambo director George P. Cosmatos, who has yet to make a better film than this. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - A GREAT YARN Val Kilmer creates one of the most beautifully realized western characters ever in this slam-bang actioner, and Kurt Russel's version of Earp beat's even the great Henry Fonda's ( in my own opinion, of course ).
If you're a history buff, you'll probably hate the movie. Westerns are about the myth, not the facts, as a general rule, and TOMBSTONE is no exception to that rule. That said, it is a helluva' ride. If you like your cowboys rugged, lean, and ready for action this is definitely ... Read More
Rating: - Awsome performance, way better than Wyatt Earp I was introduced to this money several years ago and I NEVER get tired of watching it. I`ve watched Wyatt Earp too, but after watching Tombstone,it just doesn`t hold a candle to it. We already had the tape of it,but really wanted the DVD, so I actually got the movie for my husband for his b-day,but I love it just as much. Val Kilmer`s performance in this movie, in my opinion,is one of his best that I`ve ever seen. I like Kurt Russell in about everything I`ve seen him in. Bill Paxton,Sam Elliott, Powers ... Read More
Rating: - Great western! I was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie is. The plot was actually interesting and the actors were fabulous.I was living the movie with them before it was over....
Rating: - Good movie This is a good movie/story. There is lots of western action and courage in the face of overwhelming odds.
Rating: - No Upconvert to HD I tried this disc with a PS3, a Samsung 1080P upconverter, and a Sony BR player, all of which have the capability to upconvert standard DVD to 1080P. However, this disc will not upconvert using any of those devices. The best that you'll see on your HD-set is the movie in letter-box format, and that only fills up about thirty-percent of the screen. Bah!!!
