Product Description: The heft of a chef's knife is intended to let gravity do most of the work. And because a firm, comfortable grip is essential, choose several knives from a wide variety of sizes that conform to your hand.
About Wusthof Classic: • Precision-forged blades of Wusthof's own high-carbon, stain-resistant steel alloy, for a lasting edge that is easy to resharpen. • Distinctive bolster prevents your hand from slipping onto the blade. • Handle is a virtually indestructible composite, buffed by hand for a smooth finish and triple-riveted to the full tang for optimum strength and balance. • Dishwasher safe, but hand-washing is recommended. • Made in Solingen, Germany.
Amazon.com Review: Cook's knives are indispensable kitchen helpers. They perform a widevariety of cutting chores, from mincing to dicing and slicing. The 5-inch bladeof this definitive example provides sufficient heft to allow the knife ratherthan the cook to do most of the cutting labor; it's modest blade length makes itparticularly useful for small chopping jobs, slicing, and cubing. Many peoplefavor a cook's knife of this size because it combines the maneuverability of aparing knife with the strength and weight of a larger cook's knife.
Part of the Classic series, the knife represents two centuries of unexcelledWüsthof craftsmanship. Like other cutlery in the series, it's hand-forgedfrom a single piece of stainless steel for maximum strength; the hand-polishedblade is exactingly calibrated to be hard enough to resist dulling yet softenough to take a keen edge when it's honed or sharpened. Dishwasher-safe andwith a traditionally shaped, ergonomically designed handle that istriple-riveted for durability, this knife brings a guaranteed lifetime oflow-maintenance cutting to any cook who owns it. --Arthur Boehm
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - The Sweetest Litte Chef's Knife Ever I've been a fan of Wüsthof knives since I worked my way up to sous chef while paying my way through school. All the cooks had different knife sets (one of my favorites was a LamsonSharp set, forged locally in Massachusetts) and I got to try many styles of the French and German blade shapes. I couldn't afford good knives at the time, but after lots of testing, I found the German shape (strong curve towards the tip) the most pleasant to use; I prefer rocking slices to pulled slices (i.e., French style). ... Rating: - Great knife, but dulls quickly. This is a great knife (weight, balance, etc) but it seems to dull quickly despite the fact that it is rarely used on anything more than fruit and veggies. Don't buy it unless you are willing to invest in a sharpener to go with. The one on the back of our automatic can opener seems to work great. DO NOT use an automatic sharpener with this knife. Three to four strokes on a manual sharpener does a perfect job. An automatic will take too much metal off.
Rating: - Super knife I bought this knife for my granddaughter who has started an organic cuisine business. She was delighted with it. It was just what she needed in her business.
Rating: - Incredible, with the right technique If, like some pros, you like to grip the top of the blade between your thumb and index finger, forward of the bolster, and wrap the rest of your fingers around the handle, this knife is hard to beat. Such a grip is said to give better control, straighter cuts, and narrower slices than wrapping all fingers around the handle allows.
I took a knife-handling techniques course offered by a Wusthof rep at a local shop and was amazed by how quickly this knife turned carrots, celery, and nearly anything ... Read More
Rating: - Great Choice for an all purpose kitchen knife. This is an excellent all-around knife.I have a couple of santoku and other style knives, but I really like this classic French style. It's very versitile and great for almost everything. If I could only have one knife in the kitchen, this would be the one. The blade is curved just enough to make dicing a breeze, and as one would expect from Wusthof, its quality and feel are excellent. While not super expensive, this is not a cheap knife, but if you want to invest in a high quality, general purpose knife that ...
