Amazon.com: With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the Boston Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Having mastered the genre as the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary, it appears that first-time director Richard Curtis is just like his screenplays: He just wants to be loved, and he'll go to absurdly appealing lengths to win our affection. With Love Actually, Curtis orchestrates a minor miracle of romantic choreography, guiding a brilliant cast of stars and newcomers as they careen toward love and holiday cheer in London, among them the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who's smitten with his caterer; a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who's desperately attracted to a colleague. There's more--too much more--as Curtis wraps his Christmas gift with enough happy endings to sweeten a dozen other movies. That he pulls it off so entertainingly is undeniably impressive; that he does it so shamelessly suggests that his writing fares better with other, less ingratiating directors. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - sweet and entertaining My husband (who usually avoids any movie I describe as "sweet") and I rank this as one of our favorite movies. It's become a new Christmas classic in our house. Most of the British accents aren't difficult for our American ears to understand, as is often the case. It's also fun to see how many of the actors we can recognize from other films (there are a lot of people in this film).
Rating: - Anything But Love Actually We received this movie as a Christmas gift.We attempted to watch it while the kids were watching another movie downstairs. We forced ourselves to watch the first half hour before we decided it was so not worth our time and the title had nothing to do with the movie - except for the first scene, at the airport.
The great line up of performers gave us false hope in thinking this was going to be an entertaining movie. The lack of storyline listed on the back cover should have been ... Read More
Rating: - Shlock Actually The British are still trying to find that 1930's to 1950's style, Golden Age romance for the Cinema. They spruce it up with modern mores, bed jumping and adultery, sprinkle a little adult movie moves, add a chubby, Monica Lewinski love interest for a single Prime Minister that looks a lot like Tony Blair, add mental health issues, and bingo, ya got Three Weddings and a Night to Remember.

Rating: - fantastic fantastic movie.A great add to your collection.I'd put with Brigitte Jones as a funny, light hearted, romance filled movie. You can watch it over and over.
Rating: - The movie was awesome!!! I usually hate this type of movie and I guess I am in the holiday mood.I left the critic at the door and just went with it.The movie entertained me and I was able to escape my reality for the two hours plus that it was on.I laughed and I actually cried so I think this will be one movie I may buy.It was simply romantic and at the same time realistic with some of the love stories. Some couples ended together, some didn't and in the end it is life.
