Amazon.com Review:
The battle that pits the noble Jedi Knights against the nasty TradeFederation continues in Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles in itstriumphant form on the Dreamcast. For fans of very basic arcade beat-'em-ups,this is quite possibly the most improved translation of a bad PlayStation gameever made for the Dreamcast. Saber-swinging action on a console never has lookedbetter.

Yes, the game has bright and shiny graphics that take advantage of theDreamcast's extra processing muscle. The music and sound effects also areexcellent, and probably are the elements that capture the atmosphere of thefilms most effectively. But the game relies heavily on the basicwalk-from-left-to-right-and-chop-up-the-baddies formula. Jedi PowerBattles really hasn't moved this style of gameplay forward from thenow-ancient Double Dragon and Final Fight games of yore.

Fortunately, LucasArts made quite a few wise tweaks for this new version. Inaddition to the original playable characters (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, andMace Windu), the Dreamcast version adds the speedy Ki-Adi-Mundi. In addition todistinctive speed, strength, and personal style of saber attack, each characterhas special Force powers that get stronger as the game progresses. Of course, using your lightsaber like a Louisville Slugger to hit laser blasts into linedrives is the coolest Jedi trick in the game.

The Dreamcast version runs very quickly and smoothly (supposedly at 60 framesper second), no matter how much action is taking place on the screen. New tothis version are training levels for up-and-coming Jedis and a cool mano amano fighting mode (think Street Fighter with lightsabers) that'sgood for a few laughs.

Without the Star Wars name, this game could've been considered ratherordinary. But Jedi Power Battles delivers the fun for all who ever wanteda chance to go toe-to-toe with Darth Maul and all of his friends from the DarkSide. Neither original nor deep in gameplay, Jedi Power Battles does showthat the Force is still strong in the Dreamcast. --Mark Brooks

Pros:
  • Very good graphics, music, and sound
  • Nice extras like hidden characters, training mode, and one-on-one fight modeadd to its value
Cons:
  • It's basically yet another mindless beat-'em-up with lots of jumping
  • Could've been a bit longer

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Amazing Game loaded with glitches.
This game ownz one of the best star wars games ever made. what i dont get is how everyone loves this game but Revenge of the Sith gets the shaft even though its just like this only WAY better. its like the sequel it never got. It should definately get an official sequel though. IF you have a dreamcast and you dont have a game you dont have a life.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Many scenes in game ended up in Attack of the Clones!
Awesome DC game - Darth Maul is a righteously hard to beat. Of interest are the scenes in the game that arein Attack of Clones (Sand People genocide, jumping and cavorting in the Corrussant cityscape (including jumping from vehicle to vehicle). It may be a stretch to compare some scenes to the Cartoon Network "Clone Wars" series but the vibe was there!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A dazzling experience on the Dreamcast
When I bought this game I already owned the playstation version and believed that this would be a terrible port much like Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation onto the Dreamcast.I was wonderfully surprised when I played this game finally, it was great. The graphics are surprisingly good, better even than some of today's releases on "superior" systems. The game controls well, the sound is well. . . its John Williams, and the replay value is seemingly endless.I have been truly won over to this game ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - awsome game
this game was hard at first to master the controls but when you got the hang of it, it was an awsome game. If you dont buy this game then at least rent it or something. This game doesnt match to Shenmue or Shenmue2 but its a really good game. It's as if the game pulls you in with it and you are the jedi master. Get this game before its to late.
