Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
If you've never seen an aviation movie before in your entire life, you'll be blissfully ignorant of the fact that Memphis Belle shamelessly (and yet gloriously) incorporates just about every cliché in the flight-movie handbook. If you're a big fan of aviation movies--especially movies about World War II bomber crews--you'll be glad that the genre's clichés have been handled with such professional flair. As it follows the crew of a B-17 bomber on its final and most dangerous mission over Germany, Memphis Belle may be little more than a slick and highly authentic presentation of familiar thrills and characters, but it's a rousing piece of entertainment. Featuring an ensemble cast of fresh faces who've since enjoyed thriving careers (including Billy Zane, Sean Astin, Eric Stoltz, D.B. Sweeney, and Harry Connick Jr.), the movie exists as a fitting tribute to the men who fought and often died in the air over hostile territory. It's the Hollywood version of a 1944 wartime documentary made by legendary director William Wyler (whose daughter served as one of this film's producers), and as such it's a bit contrived and melodramatic. And yet, this exciting movie is almost certain to grab and hold your attention, offering an honorable reminder of the bravery and integrity that were crucial ingredients of any bomber's crew. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A fun and entertaining film.
If you are a World war 2 enthusiast, like I am, you have to see this film, it may not be the best film of the genre, but it is very entertaining and gives the viewer a glimpse of the war from the perspective of the ones who fought in it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - not a Bio-Pic but great movie anyway
There seems to be some nashing of teeth about some of the historical accuracy, and it is duly noted artistic license was definately taken in this movie, but I'm glad they did it anyway because the end result is fantastic. What has been mentioned in these postings is the filmakers used the real deal planes as much as they could, and the sight and sound of these mighty giants is awesome. I think that years from now when these great machines are truely just things of the past, relegated to dusty museums, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Nach Berlin !
It is a great war film. Living in a bomber raises a big shot of fears, true feelings lived by a crew for his latest mission in the bomber aircraft "Memphis Belle".

What an adventure. A formation of bombers too early abandoned by hunters allies is attacked by German fighter then harassed by the flak.

What images! Quilted German planes, sensations guaranteed when bushings from the side machine guns rain to the ground, when theventral turret no longer works, when the fire blasts ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FLY BACK IN TIME
"Memphis Belle" is in my top 10 movie list.(Last count, there's 53.)
The film is based on a true story of heroism during WWII.A real, air-worthy B-17 was used and the interior shots were filmed in sections built according to the original Boeing blueprints.I admire authenticity.
The actors were well casted but Matthew Modine and Sean Austin stood out for me as very believable characters.
This movie made me a fan of Harry Conick jr.
Words don't do it justice; just get it for your ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - WWII enjoyment for all...
Cheesy, corny, predictable, etc. Whatever you say about this film might be right... yet, it is a great movie, that transports you to the actual story of the guys and allows you to enjoy rather than suffer (although war is nothing to enjoy, ever) and gives you a positive feeling at the end. I've watched it at least ten times, and still enjoy it.
