Editorial Review:
Product Description: Published almost ten years ago, Guilty Pleasures marked the debut of a writer who was destined to grow from cult favorite to a major bestselling author. Now, for long-time Anita Blake aficionados and newfound fans, Guilty Pleasures makes its hardcover debut. Readers will learn how Anita Blake started raising the dead-and killing the undead.
And how she met Jean Claude, the master vampire destined to become not only her biggest nemesis, but her greatest lover.
Amazon.com Review: Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call herthe Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunterin a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don'tget too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anitaagrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out whoand why.
Trust is a luxury Anita can't afford when her alliesaren't human. The city's most powerful vampire, Nikolaos, is 1,000years old and looks like a 10-year-old girl. The second most powerfulvampire, Jean-Claude, is interested in more than just Anita'sprofessional talents, but the feisty necromancer isn't playingalong--yet. This popular series has a wild energy and humor, and somevery appealing characters--both dead and alive.
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - This series is a guilty pleassure First let me start by saying that i am speaking as a whole when i say that Anita Blake series is a wonderful series. Jean-Claude is super sexy, i am currently on the 9th book in the series i have been into the series for 2 months now. i got into them thanks to a friend at work. I agree with some reviews for future books that say that anita starts having a lot more intimacy with her eye candies but if you read the book you will see why, it's not by choice and that makes it a more interesting. i love ... Rating: - Dry as toast..... I was very shocked when I started reading this book. It was highly recommended and I couldn't get through the first 4 chapters. If you like a series that is not funny and hard to relate to, this one's for you!
Rating: - The Start of a Great Series This is the start of a great series of books, however after the nineth book, OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY, she does a John Norman on the series, completely changing the tone and quality, and the series goes down hill from there, rapidly.
Rating: - Not my cup of tea My mom bought the first two Anita Balke books for me because I have always been a fan of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles (and the Witches). Now to her credit my mom usually picks out good books- not this time. I found the story to be lacking in somewhat important background details- some things aren't fully explained, for example in the beginning we find out that she is supposed to "reanimate" some dead guy, but then the story just moves on. I also felt that the sentence structure was very simple and ... Read More
Rating: - Good, not what I expected.. felt a little watered down I came across this series and decided to give it a try. I ordered the first four books. This first book left me scratching my head in certain areas.
For example, parts of this book read as though it was the second in the series. It seemed like they would reference something that happened in the past and give you a quick up to speed as to what they were talking about and then move on from there. Something you would see in a second or third book to try to catch the reader up to date. I even ... Read More
