Editorial Review:
Product Description: It takes a great woman to spot greatness in other women. Have a good laugh at your own expense. Discover how completely happy you are in your own skin.
Such experiences, says Véronique Vienne, are expressions of the art of being a woman.
In this gem of a book, Vienne gently guides women of all ages and cultures through the practical– and a few rather more whimsical– lessons in the art of womanhood and in the joy of loving life as only a woman can. Along the way, she imparts unique gifts of wisdom such as:
• An alert mind is the most eye-catching feature of a face. • Smart compliments can improve the way you look as much as beauty products. • Paying more to eat less is counterintuitive, yet it is the best diet around. • Fashion is a nonsurgical nip-and-tuck technique. • Female camaraderie keeps you healthy. • Men should be given the benefit of the doubt (because they truly need it).
With its spirited prose and witty illustrations, The Art of Being a Woman informs and celebrates the many ways we all can release our insecurities, count our blessings, and experience what the French call “joie de vivre,” a lively tryst between heart and mind.
Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - Lighthearted view of us women I enjoyed this quick read tremendously. It made me laugh and think. We tend to forget sometimes the wonderful thing us women do and it is nice to reminded. Also, some of the corky things we do to each other and ourselves. Totally worth it. I'm buying another one for a gift!
Rating: - Learn to appreciate yourself through life Without going into too much detail, this book offers an appreciative perspective of life, starting with appreciating yourself. I love her insights into self-esteem and fashion, and especially with dating. It's definitely an inspiring book that I'll keep going back to.
Rating: - I was hoping for more. I wouldn't go so far as to label this a 'guide' to anything. I had seen this in the bookstore and after a quick glance through, thought it looked like something I'd like. On my latest trip to the library, I picked it up, and after reading it, I have to say that it really didn't DO anything different for me. The reading was, -well, good, but I don't feel like I really got much substance from it. It is a light read, more of a short essay style and opinions on different topics that pertain to women. ... Rating: - Enjoyable I found this book to be enjoyable but it did not live up to the expectations that I had. Veronique is not a particularly engaging writer and her style can leave you feeling a bit bored or wondering where she was going with something. The overall concept is good but there are other, better books out there that discuss the same topics.
Rating: - Insightful and Uplifting Reading I love Veronique's comments about "sisterhood."She says this should be more inclusive and should not be some exclusive club.Rather, she celebrates all women and the uniquely wonderful feminine qualities that are theirs.Vive la difference!
This is a charming, funny, and encouraging book!
