| | | Electronics Toshiba SD6100 1080p Upconverting DVD Player | | | | | | | | | | | Rating: - AWFUL PRODUCT!!CONSTANT FREEZE FRAMES! We purchased this product (and a replacement) to go with our 42-inch 1080p REGZA LCD TV.It didn't work either time -- terrible quality and then constant freeze frame issues or it would just stop altogether. It didn't like any movie format.
I ended up buying a SONY upscaling DVD player and have been very pleased with it.It handles all formats with no issues.
Sorry, Toshiba.Would have liked to have stayed with a product that went along with our TV, but just couldn't recommend this one!
Rating: - Good picture / audio quality, but poor design ruins it The picture and audio quality from this seem great to me. However, there are a few issues that will probably force me to return the player.First, there is a high-pitched oscillating hum coming from the player while it is on standby. It also seems to be causing RF interference - I think these two problems are linked.Additionally, the player is fairly noisy while it is actually playing. This might be okay if you have a big home theater setup and don't sit too close to the player, but in our small apartment setup the noise is very noticeable and distracting.
I don't think this is a defect related to my player specifically - I've read similar reviews elsewhere online.
Rating: - Rangered The SD6100 replaced my old Toshiba DVD player (purchased when DVD's were first introduced) because I got a new HDTV. The old player still works and never gave me ANY trouble, so I stayed with Toshiba. Have had this unit for about 4 months and am very pleased with it's performance. It was very easy to install, looks great, and delivers a sparkling picture (all for a very low price). Blu Ray MAY BE the future, but for now this unit delivers all you could want for a small fraction of the price.
Rating: - Worse DVD Player...And Customer Service Anyone looking for a DVD player, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!! I had this product for four months until it stopped playing DVD's.After following all the steps on the website, I tried calling the actual helpline.I was told there was nothing they could do other than offer me an exchange that would cost me half the price of the original one that I purchased.Went back to Sony, never should have left.
Rating: - Fantasic player really delivers The Toshiba SD-6100 turned my perceptions of up-conversion upside down. My first experience with an upconverting DVD player was poor - the early generation HDMI Denon I bought on clearance gave no quality improvement over my old JVC in component 480p. But on this unit picture quality at 1080i and 1080p is fantastic. The player delivers rich colors due to the high 14-Bit video D/A conversion. It also does an amazing job de-blocking the DVD video MPEG artifacts and truly "up-converting" the lower resolution quality of DVD movies to a much better quality. This player made me a believer. I actually enjoy watching DVDs again on my 37" LCD widescreen TV. A quick note for widescreen TV users - as soon as you get the DVD player online be sure to go into the setup and change the screen ratio setting from 4:3 to 16:9, otherwise your DVD videos may not stretch correctly to fit your screen. If the small remote leaves you wanting pick up a universal remote such as the Sony RM-VL600.
