Thanks, we love this navigation and it helps us a lot in teraffic status and detore. But you didn't tell us that we should buy a new map for that. We think other people should know that.
Rating: - Magellan Maestro 4250 - A Must-Have Item
I am not overstating it when I say the Magellan Maestro 4250 is the best purchase I've made in the last 16 months. You might ask why?
First, the GPS device works great. I have the introductory subscription to traffic alerts (yes, they do work!) and the device even lets you talk to it so you can be hands-free when driving. My only big complaint is the manual for the device is AWFUL. To get Magellan's attention when driving just say "Magellan." It's very easy to use, tells you street names, and even can let you control you cell phone with a BlueTooth feature.
Second, I've used Magellan twice on trips to Hawaii. In Kaui it was like my own personal tour guide, telling me Auto Club-recommended places to see and restaurants to eat at along the way. I wouldn't have had the patience for reading road maps or guides (and I didn't have to thanks to my Magellan GPS device). I even used the Magellan Maestro 4250 in Honolulu when I rented a car. I had ordered a rental car with a GPS device, but as often happens they were "out of GPS devices." I ALWAYS take my Magellan with me when I rent cars because I've found 1/3 of the time they've rented all the cars with GPS, and I don't want to be without Magellan.
Third, in the Midwest on a recent trip I took Magellan and it got me everywhere I needed to go and faster, too. My work colleageus were with me and very impressed with how it functioned. One liked it so much he went out and purchased one for himself!
Fourth, I regularly need to get around awful southern California freeways, so I use Magellan's traffic feature to go around clogged highways--saving me time and stress. The traffic feature is extra after the intro subscription expires, but I believe it's well worth it.
Fifth, the device is very portable and easy to travel with everywhere in the world. I have put a Velcro back of my GPS unit and carry an extra Velcro to attach it to the dashboard on rental cars. It removes without any damage, and it never falls off.
If you buy this unit, I recommend you invest in a case. I went to Best Buy and bought a $19 case that protects it in my car and in my luggage. The case that comes with the unit is flimsy and not too good for travel purposes.
So there you have it. I wouldn't give up my Magellan Maestro 4250 for anything--even $500. I got mine for much less, but I think it's worth $500 for how much use I've gotten out of it--and the peace of mind it offers when traveling around major cities or anywhere else.

The Magellan 4250 is a solid GPS.The screen size is ideal with larger screen alternatives providing marginal benefit at best.The screen shows, in addition to the map, my estimated time or arrival, the miles until the next course adjustment, and a little diagram of the next turn.The Magellan directs me to my destination by the most direct path allowing me to choose freeways, avoid freeways, most direct, fastest, etc.Occasionally, it will direct me on a path that I am not 100% sure is the fastest (although it may be) but it ALWAYS sends me to the right spot!When it notes that I've hit a traffic jam, it offers to reroute me on a path that avoids the blockage.Further, it warns me in advance of turns regularly enough that I'm prepared without pestering me.The Magellan 4250's limitations are minor.You cannot change the voice, saving destinations in the address book is not intuitive, and the voice recognition function has limited commands and limited voice recognition.That being said, I recommend this unit highly because it excels in those areas that it should as an OUTSTANDING GPS.

Magellan Customer service is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.They offer a free 30 day map update since all of their products ship with out of date maps.This would be a good thing except it is in the fine print of their products and their customer support email address that their website list is the wrong address.I had to get through to their customer service by posting a bad review on their website.By the time they responded my unit was beyond the 30 day limit and they refused to give me the update.This is a bad business practice.Garmin has a 60 day guarantee which is posted directly on their website in plain view.

This is my first GPS.I programmed in my in-laws' address (I've made the trip countless times) and selected "No Thruways" and then followed my usual route.I did not make all the turns it announced.When I missed an instruction it reprogrammed the route in less than a minute.It was dead-on accurate.The graphics are vivid and easy to follow.I used it to visit a friend who had recently moved and was almost 300 miles away.On the Interstate it gives the first alert for a turn about ten miles out.It tells you when to ignore a turn-off at a major interchange and stay the course.It is BlueTooth capable, has hundreds of Points of Interest and traffic alerts.It comes with all the mounting hardware you'll need and all cables.I give it five stars for ease of use, accuracy and convenience.I have not found a downside yet.
