| | | Electronics Garmin nüvi 760 Portable GPS Automobile Navigator | | | | | | | | | | | Rating: - Garmin nuvi 760 The GPS arrived sooner than promised. So far only two complaints and I have shared them with Garmin. The serial number, located on the bottom, is so small it is almost impossible to read even with a magnifying glass.
The unit came with the 2008 version of maps and during the registration process I was offered the current version (2009) at an additional cost of $69.95.I emailed Garmin asking why the unit was not shipped with current maps and why I was not eligible for a free upgrade. So far, no response, and sicnce it has been a month, I don't expect one.
Rating: - Nuvi 760 Purchased because I travel.Really cool that I can punch in an address a state away from me while sitting in my driveway and then take off and end up exactly where I need to be without any hitches.Really strange driving without maps but there is no need to have them when your Nuvi is with you.Looking for something to eat or a place to stay the night while in a strange town?Just simply touch a few buttons on the screen and find what you need.I must say that the hands free phone (bluetooth) is somewhat staticky while talking but I highly recommend this product.
Rating: - Great GPS - but guard that power cord! The GPS has been great. The traffic features are exceptional in routing you around construction, etc. (I saw parts of Ohio that I never knew existed, but I was not left sitting in traffic either). My only complaint is that the power cord should be plated in gold and have its own tracking device built in. I left mine in a rental car (or hotel - not sure which) and found out later when I went to buy a replacement that the cord has the traffic antenna and the system logic built into it. Replacement cost is almost half the total cost of the GPS! Thank goodness for eBay.
Rating: - I am well satisfied with the Garmin 760 I am well satisfied with the Garmin 760. It has fast accurate traffic information, and is easy to program and operate. The information in points of interest is very helpful and accurate. I would recommend this unit to my friends.
Rating: - One step foward and two steps back. I owned a Garmin StreetPilot II before getting the 760.The hardware of the 760 is great, however thats where it ends.
My main complaint is that the directions I get are TERRIBLE.The unit continually gives me poor routes in areas I am well famaliar with. The one time I had to use the unit in a new area, it also gave me terrible directions and cost me over an hour.
The StreetPilot II, while not giving perfect directions was almost always in that 95% range of "good enough".
Personally I think Garmin wasted too much time adding useless features like an MP3 player.Who is going to want to listen to music on the tin-sounding speaker? The FM transmitter is usesless in any metro area.
The SP II had so many nice details with respect to navigation that the 760 is lacking, like showing you the block address when you are driving down a street.
I'm returning my unit (bought from Costco) and going to try a different brand.
