Kitchen & Housewares Krups KB720 1,000-Watt 5-Speed Blender with 60-Ounce Glass Jar
page 2 of  4
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My Blender works just fine =)
I've had this blender over a year now, but have not used it excessively.

I've started using it again recently to make raw green smoothies & other raw smoothies. It works perfectly for me.

I'm not sure why some people are having trouble with the bottom falling off?? Bizarre, since the bottom twists & locks into place. I guess if you don't attach it properly in the first place, then it's your own fault that the bottom falls out. Seriously, there's no way for the bottom to come off unless you do not attach it properly. You have to push it down & twist it & you will hear it click & lock onto the jar. Anyway...

It blends everything perfectly for me. Some of my latest creations have included watermelon, bananas, strawberries, baby carrots (whole), spinach, kale, watercress, blueberries, cherries, mangoes, pineapple, raw almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, raw oatmeal, and everything else you can imagine. It liquefies everythng I put in there easily & quickly.

When it was brand new, yes, it gave off a burning rubber kind of smell. But that's typical of most new appliances such as this. It's just how things are. It goes away after a few uses.

The glass jar is awesome - very heavy duty. So much nicer than plastic!

At any rate, its a nice blender as far as I'm concerned. It does what I need it to do, cleans super easy, and doesn't take up huge amounts of counter space.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Heavy Duty, Quiet
This is a great heavy duty blender. It is also quiet as comparied to others I have owned.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Yes Indeed: Bottom Detaches from Glass and DISASTER.
I had about a year of decent use out of this Expensive Blender. But I was *constantly* having to watch out for the bottom blade assembly detaching itself from the glass jar as I was lifting the jar/blade assembly off the motor base. The blade assembly is in a plastic housing that doesn't "lock" cleanly with the jar unless you're extra careful.Even then, you should check it to make sure the jar is seated properly. In addition to numerous "close calls," I had two major spill incidents where I lifted up the jar, it came loose from the blade assembly, and the entire contents of the jar dumped all over the counter and the base. The first time I was able to get the base dried out and running fine. The second time, two bananas, a large dollop of peanut butter, and 4 scoops of Optimum Whey Extreme Chocolate protein powder and 20 ozs. of skim milk, all nicely blended and sticky, spilled everywhere, including into the base. After I cleaned up the base, I tried to dry out the motor inside by using a hair drier. No dice. The motor was trashed. Likewise, I couldn't take the bottom of the base off to get to the motor itself without a special tool "star point" wrench - probably a good idea for those "boy Edisons" like myself.

Before I bought the Krups, I had a Cuisinart blender that I got at Lowe's for under 50 bucks. I burned the motor out on that puppy with daily use (protein shakes) after a year, but I never had the issues I had with the Krups - or the cost. So, back to Lowe's. Run 'em till they croak, then toss. You gotta love modern living.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best (& Quietest) Blender I've Owned
Just finished my first blend - was a bit worried after reading all of the negative reviews concerning about whether this unit can adequately blend frozen fruit.First impression - very nice.Smoothie with frozen strawberries (+ almond milk & protein powder) was well blended.Unit did turn itself off, either from an (unseen) auto timer or the heat sensor issues raised in other reviews, but my smoothie was finished anyway.Very quiet blending - a huge plus as my cheapo blenders used to make me plug my ears and I'm sure woke the neighbors (apartment neighbors), as loud as jackhammers. So far so good, very pleased.

UPDATE: Many smoothies later - it occurs to me that those complaining about the lack of a "vortex" action, or incomplete blending, probably aren't following the blender directions. You must start the blender on its lowest setting first, then once the material has been broken down, you can move it up the speed list.If you make it go too fast too soon, there is no vortex action. My smoothies are chock full of frozen stuff and this blender handles it well (if I follow the unit's directions).Wonderful to be in the same room with an operating blender and not worry about hearing loss...

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

*UPDATE - 3 MONTHS LATER*

2 Blends a day, this blender handles it all, does a great job, still very quiet, I'm buying an extra for the office soon.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not worth the money
This blender won't even blend a banana, there are always little chunks left in the bottom. The motor has an electrical burning smell and the bottom can open very easily, draining all the liquid onto the motor base and that burns out the motor!!

It's not a very good piece of kitchen equipment. Krups should be ashamed of itself!
