| | | Kitchen & Housewares Cuisinart CSK-150 1500-Watt Nonstick Oval Electric Skillet | | | | | | | | | | | Rating: - Worth the extra money I've had many electric skillets over the years, but this is the best one yet. They say you get what you pay for, and with this one it's certainly true. It is a little bit on the heavy side, but not enough to be a problem. The temperature stays consistent, and clean up is a breeze. I highly recommend it.
Rating: - Excellent tool for cooks at any level. This is my fourth electric skillet in 35 years of cooking, and the first one I'm making excuses to use.Despite a kitchen filled with Le Creuset, All Clad, and Calphalon cookware, there are times I just want to stand at the counter and not at the stove to prepare dinner. This is a beautiful piece of equipment, nice enough to bring to table, and with a capacity spacious and deep enough to accommodate a large cut-up roasting chicken with potatoes and vegetables (which I did last night for first use), or for browning and then braising meat for a stew. There are no hot spots, as I've experienced with other electrics, so the even heat provided quick and even browning of all chicken pieces before braising. Also delightful to watch your dinner's progress through the tempered glass lid.A small steam vent keeps the lid from jiggling under too much pressure.I'm looking forward to doing a brisket in this skillet, as my round Dutch ovens could never handle the shape of that cut of meat and I had to use a roasting pan tightly sealed with foil.It is quite large - larger than I had expected, and just barely fits on a shelf in my kitchen cabinet. But nice enough to leave out on your counter if you must.
Rating: - Great unit, but watch the handle! We are quite pleased with our CSK-150 Electric Skillet from Cuisinart...except for one major design flaw. The handle on the lid is metal and gets hot no matter what the temperature setting. We encourage the manufacturer to adapt some type of synthetic coating around the metal to prevent consumer burns.
Rating: - Very Pleased This is my first electric skillet. The first use it got was for bacon and eggs.I was amazed at how quickly it gets to the desired temp.Whats great about it is that there are no hot spots like you get when you have a big pan on the stove. After the bacon was done I turned it down and put the eggs in and they were cooked PERFECTLY and EVENLY.
It takes some experimenting with the right temp if you're a novice with electric skillets - and unfortunately the instruction booklet doesn't give any recommended settings for simple things like eggs, bacon, or pancakes - which would be very helpful.
This is a large skillet so be aware that it will have to sit out on your counter if you don't have enough room to place it in a cabinet.
Cleaning it is a snap -
Rating: - Saved me thousands of dollars! I needed extra burners on my stovetop- after receiving estimates for the job which would have required new exhaust system, countertop, etc - a $5,000+ job - I decided to order this appliance instead. Smartest move I ever made! No need now for more burners. Cooks evenly, deep enough for stews and large stir frys - easy to clean. Have had other electric skillets through the years - none could compare to this one.
Now I can spend the extra money on a plasma tv! Thanks,Cuisinart!
